Wasps announce the signing of hooker Gabriel Oghre and prop George Thornton to the Senior Academy ahead of the new season.
19-year-old Oghre, who represented England Under 19s against France in April, was at Bath Rugby, having joined their Senior Academy from Millfield School before the start of last season.
During the 2015/16 season Oghre captained Bath’s Under 18s side, catching-the-eye with his strong carrying and solid set piece work.
20-year-old loosehead prop Thornton impressed for Scotland during the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Georgia this summer, starting all five of their games.
Former Market Harborough RUFC and Bishop Burton College player, Thornton stands at 6ft 3’ tall and tips the scales at close to 120kgs.
Wasps Academy have also signed second row Joe Tunney and flanker James Seabrook to University contracts. Tunney will be studying at Loughborough University while Seabrook will be at Warwick University.
Speaking about the recruits for the new campaign, Wasps’ Academy Manager, Jonathan Pendlebury said: “It’s great to be able to offer extended opportunities for over 18 players. James Seabrook and Joe Tunney have come through the Academy system and we are looking to extend their opportunity by continuing in the Senior Academy and balancing that with A League exposure and university rugby.
“Similarly, for Gabriel and George who are coming from different backgrounds, it is great to be able to offer them opportunities with Senior Academy deals. Gaby is coming from another academy and George has come through a completely different route having played club rugby, to university level BUCS rugby and the Junior World Championship at international level. We look forward to welcoming them to Wasps for the season ahead.”
