The governors, staff and children at High Meadow Infant School, Norton Road, are celebrating again after being awarded the status of ‘International Storytelling School’.
The head teacher Mrs Debby Hughes said ‘In September 2015 we introduced ‘Storytelling’ across the whole school. This is a proven strategy which helps foster a love of reading, writing and oral storytelling in our children and school community. This strategy is based on the Pie Corbett ‘Talk for Writing’ model which has been proved to raise standards in writing for ALL children’
All of the staff have worked for the past two and a half years with Dr Chris Smith to embed this engaging and impactful strategy. On giving the award Chris said ‘We were really impressed with High Meadow’s accreditation application….it’s clear the approach is being used creatively and effectively. It is wonderful to see the fluency and enthusiasm of the telling, the clarity of progression in the examples and the lovely pieces of writing’
Two members of staff, Miss Rebecca Davies and Mrs Angela Davies are now accredited trainers and will share their outstanding practice with other teachers, schools and educators across the world. Miss Davies proudly said ‘The simple joy and magic of storytelling is seen as a crucial part of an all-round education, a core skill for learning and sequencing ideas, a way of developing skills and confidence in speaking and performing, and a way of developing ideas about stories that enable all learners to go further in their story making’
High Meadow are thrilled to helping put Coleshill on the map of Educational Excellence across the world! Check out our practice on you tube!
