Friends of Orton Manor Nursing Home, Water Orton, met on Tuesday 7th November to be updated on service developments. Friends have been meeting regularly at the 40 bed Nursing Home for several years and include families of residents, residents, staff and representatives of the local community keen to support this valuable local facility.
Guest speakers included Leanne Markham from Apetito, the company that provides attractive and nutritionally balanced cooked meals for residents. A tasting opportunity confirmed that food flavours were as good as eye appeal.
Neha Mehta and Malcom Whitham from Sekoia gave an update on the digital care planning system that Orton Manor adopted a year ago. Screens in all resident’s rooms and in communal areas are used by staff to record the interventions that can be checked and used for management planning. Screen menus include two photo streams; one the communal pictures of life in the home and the other an individual one for a resident’s own photographs and pictures. These can be downloaded remotely by families through a website provided by Sekoia.
The opportunity to meet staff and ask questions provides Friends with the transparency and dialogue so needed when leaving loved ones in care. Orton Manor increasingly accommodates residents who are bed-bound, at end of life or with cognitive and communication difficulties. Thanks were expressed to Manager, Gemma Broth, and her team who work tirelessly to make Orton Manor a home from home and improve standards.
