Curdworth WI report

Curdworth WI has enjoyed a great Summer and is now looking forward to the Autumn and Winter part of our Programme!

After our wonderful June Show, where members exhibited their talents in floristry, baking, photography and so many crafts, such as knitting, sewing, crocheting and beadwork, we’ve enjoyed a puzzling quiz evening, with Bob & Dell Neill, looking at and trying to identify gadgets and implements from years past – would you recognise a pill maker or a goffering iron?  Great fun, which we’d recommend to anyone looking for an entertaining evening!

In August, choosing a day of lovely weather, we went to Curborough Craft Centre near Lichfield for a gardening talk by horticulturist Byron Lewis, a mine of information on all green things, who introduced us to new plants as well as reviving our interest in some old favourites. We learned the best soils and positions to place our plants in to get the best results from them and how to plant our potatoes now to reap a harvest for Xmas dinner. After our ‘lecture’, which left us all keen to get to the garden centre to purchase some new additions for our plots, we had a tea, with delicious scones, jam and cream.  A perfect end to the afternoon!

Our September Meeting is always our Open Evening, when we like to show off our WI and invite along ladies, who have not yet joined WI.  We members know what a great ladies’ club WI is and we want to ‘spread the word’.  So we invited everyone to join us in Curdworth, with a welcome glass of wine at our ladies’ Pampering Evening, featuring stalls with lovely clothes, jewellery and handbags, as well as handcrafted furry animals and special handmade cards.  There was a hairdresser to demonstrate the latest trends and some visitors went home very happy with a new style. And for those of us who love natural beauty products, our on hand beautician, demonstrated the latest in natural make-up products.  One of the highlights of the evening was a relaxing massage and many members and visitors took taking full advantage of a quiet few minutes!  A great evening was enjoyed by all!

We’re now looking forward to our October Trivial Pursuit Quiz – one of the village highlights of the year and to our November Barn Dance and then it will be our Xmas Party and the Group Carol Service and the end of another great year at Curdworth.

We’re a great WI – why not come and join us?  For further info on us and our events – look at our website www.curdworthwi.co.uk or give me a call Liz 01675 481412 / 07811 147728
