Come along to charity car wash in aid of St Catherine’s Day Service

On Saturday 12th of August, St Catherine’s Day Service are holding a charity car wash to help raise funds so they can better support the people who use their centre.

Picture2aIt will be held in the car park next door to the centre on Coventry Road from 10.30 – 2.30 and will cost £5 per car, which includes a free tea or coffee. Visitors will be able to relax in St Catherine’s sensory garden, enjoying a hot drink while their car is cleaned.

Run by local charity Father Hudson’s Care, the Day Service provides specialist care and support to people with complex physical, psychological and sensory disabilities. Aiming to make each day meaningful, they offer a range of services and activities to enable their clients to enjoy new experiences and achieve personal ambitions. Activities include cooking, making music, arts and crafts, drama, exercise and dance. And outside the centre clients are supported to get involved with activities they enjoy, like going to art classes, horse riding or taking part in voluntary work.

They are holding the car wash to raise funds towards an Acheeva Bed, which will help to give a much needed break from the moulded wheelchair that many people at Day Service use. Acheeva beds are specialist pieces of equipment that offer full postural support, so people can easily take part in activities at the centre alongside their friends.

St Catherine’s Day Service already have one Acheeva bed, which enables staff to support people with complex care needs, in a way that is tailored to suit the individual. They would like to purchase another bed so more people can benefit from the extra support it will give. This important piece of equipment will cost around £5,000 and staff from St Catherine’s Day Service are hoping the car wash will help them take steps towards meeting this target.

So come along on the day to get your car looking spick-and-span while helping to raise funds for this brilliant place.
