Coleshill and District U3A

It was just like  ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’!

On 15th May one of our members, ‘H’ Williams, gave us a most enlightening talk on Fuchsias. He was chairman of Sutton Coldfield Fuchsia Society for many years and told us that for three years in a row he won ‘Best in Show’ and was told it was about time he retired!  He told us that cuttings could be taken at any time of the year and he demonstrated how to propagate them, he showed us how to make half baskets with the simplest of equipment and that a ‘standard fuchsia’ is no more than a bush on a stick! We learnt how to shape fuchsia stems (with fuse wire) and he let us into the tricks of the trade when making fuchsia bonsais. There was much interest in the audience for his talk. This was shown by the number of questions he had to answer during and at the end.

We have a fascinating programme of speakers scheduled for 2017 and into 2018. Why not join us?  It’s never too late to learn!
