Christmas Tree Festival 2017

This event, much enjoyed by all ages, will again take place in the church during the three weekends leading up to Christmas. As usual the church will be decorated with 60 trees around the church. Each will be decorated by a person or an organisation.

Some people plan their “tree” from the start of the year. With everyone having their own ideas to decorate their tree, it helps make the whole event very different from the previous one. Last year there were titles such as “No ‘N’ Tree”,

“The 2.30 Tree”, “Pom ~ Pom” Tree and “Hallemoojah!”

There will continue to be a Remembrance Tree, where there is the opportunity for the names of loved ones to be written on stars and put on the tree for £1. This money will go towards the cost of cutting the churchyard grass, which is at present £260 per cut. In the vestry there will be the Prayer Tree, where prayers can be pegged to the tree and all of these will be brought to the Lord over the Christmas period. There will also be the opportunity to light a candle. Together with the various things that are in some of the windows and suspended from the arches and ceiling etc. with a few new things included. As well as in previous years there will be a crib on the altar to remind all of us that the gift to mankind of the baby Jesus is the true meaning of Christmas.

The opening hours will continue to be the same as in previous years for the three weekends prior to Christmas i.e. Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 11.30 a.m.to 6 p.m.

If an organisation/group would like to arrange a visit on a week day this may be possible, please contact 01827 874520.

Admission will continue to be £2.00 per person, and accompanied children under 12 will be free. The proceeds will be in aid of Church funds, with a donation of 20% being given to the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.

Throughout the weekends there will be tea, coffee, hot chocolate and mince pies available in the annexe, and also a raffle for a Christmas cake.

Jess and Richard Arrowsmith will be, as in past years giving a concert of Traditional English Music on Friday 22th at 7.30 p.m. Tickets £10 payable at the door.

As with all such events that St. Laurence Church arranges, it is wonderful to welcome visitors to share it. It is most encouraging to hear their lovely comments and also to read the ones written in the visitor’s book, a few of which are listed below:-

“Really wonderful displays.“

“Beautiful and creative ☺”

“Again, another year of heartfelt beauty.”

“Congratulations to you all, a wonderful display.”

“The trees are so pretty I would love to come next year.”

“Wonderful, different trees from so many people, organised, beautiful and cheerful.”

“Beautiful as usual. Thank You.”

A report of last year’s festival with a few photographs can be found at http://ansleychurch.org/articles/articles.php?id=626 but, as with many photographs, they do not give the full atmosphere

With 60 beautifully decorated trees, we feel this will be a wonderful way to add to your Christmas celebrations. So why not come along and enjoy the wonder of our Festival, which we hope will be another lovely experience.
